Situated on the grounds of The University of Western Australia and in the heart of the university, this year’s TASA conference will offer conference delegates plenty of options to catch up with friends and colleagues on the grounds of The University of Western Australia.

This year TASA will hold our Women’s Breakfast on Tuesday 28 November 2017, 7-8.20am at The University of Western Australia Hackett Café. The Women’s Breakfast is open to all delegates who identify as a woman. The keynote speaker for this event will be the Hon. Dr Carmen Lawrence, Professorial Fellow in the School of Psychological Science at UWA and former Premier of Western Australia. After training as a research psychologist at the University of Western Australia and lecturing in a number of Australian universities, Dr Lawrence entered politics in 1986, serving at both State and Federal levels for 21 years. She was at various times W.A Minister for Education and Aboriginal affairs and was the first woman Premier and Treasurer of a State government. She shifted to Federal politics in 1994 when she was elected as the Member for Fremantle and was appointed Minister for Health and Human Services and Minister assisting the Prime Minister on the Status of Women. She has held various portfolios in Opposition, including Indigenous Affairs, Environment, Industry and Innovation and was elected national President of the Labor Party in 2004. She retired from politics in 2007. She is now a Professorial Fellow at the University of Western Australia where she is working to establish a centre to research the forces driving significant social change in key areas of contemporary challenge as well as exploring our reactions to that change. This year’s Queer Drinks will be held at The University of Western Australia Guild Tavern on Tuesday 28 November 2017, 6.30-8.30pm. CLICK HERE for location map. Queer drinks is a time for LGBTIQ folks and their allies to get together informally to talk about shared research and activism. It is also an opportunity to socialize and get to know one another. The cost is $15pp and includes nibbles and one drink on arrival.
The Conference Dinner will be held on Wednesday 29 November 2017, 6:30-10:30pm at The University of Western Australia Guild Tavern. CLICK HERE for location map. This year the conference dinner will be an informal barbecue where delegates can mingle in the laid-back setting of the Guild Tavern while enjoying views of Matilda Bay, the Swan River and lights of Perth City at night. Gluten free, vegetarian and vegan dietary requirements will be catered for. The cost is $60pp. The Tavern bar will be staffed for the purchasing of drinks.
